Tips from a Travel Advisor Who Travels with Medication
Planning an overseas adventure while managing a medication like Ozempic, Semaglutide (Wegovy), or Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)? You’re not alone — and yes, it’s possible to travel confidently and comfortably with these injectables.
As a travel advisor with an autoimmune condition who travels with medication myself, I know just how important it is to stay prepared, keep your meds safe, and still enjoy the journey. Whether you’re headed to Europe, Asia, or on a cruise, this guide is here to help.

Can You Travel Internationally with Ozempic?
Yes, you can travel internationally with Ozempic or similar medications — but it requires some planning. These medications are usually stored in the refrigerator but can be kept at room temperature for up to 56 days (verify your specific brand instructions).
The key is keeping them cool and secure while on the move.
Use a TSA-Approved Portable Cooler
You don’t need a large medical bag to carry your injectable meds. A small, TSA-approved portable insulin cooler fits perfectly in a carry-on or daypack. These compact devices use ice packs or self-cooling technology to keep your medication safe for hours.

Best Travel Backpack for Medications + Tech
You only need to keep it cool if it hasn't yet reached room temperature. If your medication is still in the original packaging and stored properly, it can stay out of the fridge for several weeks (based on the manufacturer's guidelines).
Tip:Carry it in your personal item, not your checked bag. Checked luggage can sit in extreme heat or cold and may be lost or delayed.
I like the Nomatic Navigator Backpack because it expands! There's room for my medicine bottles and cooler for my injectables along with my laptop.

Injecting While Abroad
Once you arrive, storing and using your medication is usually easy:
Use the hotel minibar fridge or ask reception to store your medication
Consider a travel-sized sharps container or a zippered pouch to collect used pens
Keep your injection time consistent with your home routine (adjust for time zones gradually)
